2nd International Congress on Innovation for Global Surgery

Dear colleagues and friends,
This conference brings to you various innovations like Wide Awake Local Anesthesia (WALANT) and Gas Insufflation Less Laparoscopic Surgery (GILLS) among several others which have proven to be frugal solutions towards problems faced by LMIC’s.
African nations continue to battle poverty and this means the health sector is almost always facing scarcity of resources. Innovations in the western world prove to be unaffordable in LMIC’s in most cases. In trying to overcome these challenges, we have come up with certain frugal and brilliant solutions that ensure provision of quality and affordable care to the patients we serve. This is a congress to showcase and discuss these solutions with engineers and industry leaders and learn from them as well. I urge you to participate in large numbers and learn all about innovations, and also share with us, your own personal innovations and make the most of the gurus in the respective fields of training and innovations to make healthcare affordable and accessible to populations in rural regions of Africa.

It is my great pleasure to welcome you all to the International Congress on Innovations in Global Surgery, being held for the very first time in Africa.

Wide Awake Local Anesthetic No Tourniquet (WALANT)

24th-25th April 2023
WALANT is a relatively new technique gaining popularity in SubSaharan Africa. This technique allows procedures to be done using field sterility and numbing the surgical area using local anesthetics versus conventional general anesthesia.
ICIGS 2023 programme

Flexible Endoscopy

24th-25th April 2023
This workshop has been devised to deliver live training in upper and lower GI endoscopies under a team of internationally and locally recognized surgeons for the first time under one platform.
ICIGS 2023 programme

LAP Cystoscopy

24th-25th April 2023
The workshop is intended for a multidisciplinary audience - it will have value for participants from medical and engineering backgrounds, and for experience levels spanning students to experienced professionals. There will be an emphasis on hands-on interaction with new technology and exploring the development process through an interactive multidisciplinary group session.
